Curriculum and textbooks :
Being registered with the Ministry of Education, HMG, Nepal, and affiliated with the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Sanothimi, Kathmandu, we follow the curriculum specified by the same authority from time to time. But, being the only Higher Secondary School that provides the facility of education up to the Plus Two level to the young Tibetans in Nepal and prepare them for the college-education, we are aware of our additional responsibilities towards the community and its progress. We often have a Resource Person’s Talk in the School. Resource Personal come from Nepal, India, Tibetan Government in Exile, etc. Most often they are the ones from within the community that have created a distinct mark for themselves and achieved excellent credits in their own special fields.

We follow the same textbooks as in the other Schools of Kathmandu, but since 2005-2006 an additional Tibetan curriculum and textbooks are being introduced. These textbooks have been written by the Tibetan Textbook Committee in Nepal and are approved by the Government of Nepal.

Except for the Nepali and Tibetan languages, the medium of instruction in our school is English. Tibetan language and religion are taught as Compulsory Subjects as in any other Tibetan School in Exile. Besides this, part of our curriculum is designed to teach Tibetan Music Dance and Art to the students.

Extra-curricular activities : For competition, cooperation and importance of every participant’s role, for team-spirit and for the healthy physical and mental development, we pay due attention to promote the games and sports. The students are divided into Four Houses within which every students holds his part in one or the other enterprise. If someone struggles for earning credits to his House as a Volley-ball player, another puts in his efforts at the Marathon-running, yet another tries to perform well at the Drama or Singing or Elocution Contest.

Such activities go on throughout the year with their culmination coming up on the Sports Day of each Academic Session.

Library : NHSS has 3000 volumes in three different languages, English, Nepali and Tibetan, in its library. A variety of periodicals and an audio-visual collection is an additional facility. There are reference books too. The School has a Committee that recommends the purchase of books for the library. The books pertaining to various subjects are purchased on the recommendation of the subject teachers, books on literature and art are purchased on the recommendation of the Literary Activities’ Chief, and so forth.

Students and the staff make use of these books as much as they can. For students, the time-table of each class has been set in such a way that every student gets the chance of visiting the library at least once in every week, if there is no holiday during that particular week.

Computer education:To keep up-to-date with the latest development in the field of Information and Technology, this School too felt a necessity to participate in the growing demand of Computer Education for the Students. The School now has 21 branded computers (Compaq); Intel Pentium III, 500 MHZ Processor, with integrated 40X CD-ROM Drive, full Multimedia facilities and Window xp/2000 pre-loaded. The Computer Lessons are now given to all the students at the School.

NSC:The Students’ Council consists of representatives elected from the Senior Classes with 15 to 17 working members. The five Office Bearers are elected from amongst the members. The election and appointment of Officers is done exclusively by the students themselves, and these elections take place at the beginning of each Academic Session. The School Director is the Adviser to the Council.
The Main Objectives of the Council are to consider, and where possible, implement ideas the suggestions put forward by the Students. The Council also serves as an intermediary between the Students, Teachers and School Administration. The Council undertakes a variety of activities throughout the year.
Namgyal GreenClub is a voluntary club and its main objective is to help our students in maintaining a clean and a healthy environment. The club members are ready to step forward in any matters related to the improvement and
preservation of the school environment. At present, the club members are functioning very well under the guidence of
Ven. Tenzin Nyima and Mrs. Chime Dolkar(staff).
During the previous year, our club consisted of 72 members but in this
batch we have 110 members. The main responsiblity of the club is to make our school free from filth and to provide
a cleaner environment. The club members clean the school compound as well as the outskirts of the school.
